V-Nails are very commonly used in the picture framing industry to join (and in conjunction with wood glue) and permanently hold the mitred corners of a picture frame together. They have one edge that is sharp (which goes into the wood) and one edge that is dull (which for pushing it in). They are commonly pushed into the corner joint (sharp edge first) by either hand operated manual tools, or by the use of an underpinner. They are made of hardened steel, and come in heights of 7mm, 10mm, 12mm, and 15mm. They can also be stacked one on top of each other when precisely aligned (may require use of an underpinner). They can come in hardwood and softwood varieties, but hardwood V-Nails work for both wood types. The v-nails we stock are Alfamacchine brand and are generally for use with Alfamacchine underpinners, but we also have universal v-nails which fit some other brands of underpinners. Both V-Nail types can be used by hobbyist / manual underpinner hand tools.
